What is Mucuna Pruriens Extract Levodopa Powder L-Dopa Powder ?

It contains high concentrations of levodopa, a direct precursor of the neurotransmitter dopamine. It has long been used in traditional Ayurvedic Indian medicine for diseases including Parkinson's Disease. L-dopa converts into dopamine, an important brain chemical involved in mood, sexuality, and movement.

Levodopa (L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine) is a chemical that is made and used as part of the normal biology of some animals and plants. Some animals including humans make it via biosynthesis from the amino acid L-tyrosine.

It is the precursor to the neurotransmitters dopamine, norepinephrine (noradrenaline), and epinephrine (adrenaline) collectively known as catecholamines. It can be manufactured and in its pure form is sold as a psychoactive drug with the INN levodopa; trade names include Sinemet, Parcopa, Atamet, Stalevo, Madopar, Prolopa, etc.). As a drug it is used in the clinical treatment of Parkinson's disease and dopamine-responsive dystonia.

Introduction :

Levodopa Powder in pill form is absorbed in the blood from the small intestine and travels through the blood to the brain, where it is converted into dopamine. Once the brain converts levodopa into dopamine, it is stored in the neurons until needed by the body for movement. Levodopa remains the single most effective agent in the management of Parkinson's symptoms.

Levodopa is almost always given in combination with another medication called Carbidopa. Carbidopa is also a levodopa enhancer. When added, carbidopa enables a much lower dose of levodopa (80% less!) and helps reduce the side effects of nausea and vomiting.

Levodopa - also called L-dopa - is the drug most often prescribed. The body metabolizes it to produce dopamine. Giving dopamine directly is ineffective, because the brain's natural defense blocks it from being used by the body. To suppress nausea and other possible side effects, levodopa is used in conjunction with a related drug called carbidopa. The combination is commercially known as Sinemet.
